I wrote this for the Bachchor Salzburg shortly before our concert in 2021 (cancelled of course). The Mozart melody is in the tenor voice, around which I use the remaining three voices to harmonize freely and create non-Mozaertean chords.

In this arrangement I collaborated with Johannes Forster (a member of the choir, an accomplished classical singer and yodeler/Jodeler). Surely Mozart knew about Jodeln: the G-major trio of the Menuett from Symphony No. 40 K. 550 seems Jodelerisch to me and is indeed the only part of the symphony in the parallel major, giving it a miracuously sunny quality.)

I recorded Johannes in my flat in Salzburg. He improvised in short bursts over chords and we chose the fragments we liked. I asked Johannes to maybe sing a bit softer for the neighbours, and he informed me with a big grin in approximately these words: "Jodeln is either loud or not at all".

The outstanding Heidi Baumgartner sings the solo soprano voice.

Although the concert was cancelled, I took the opportunity to convert the arrangement into this video. All of the electronic effects are piano sounds (re-sampled from my own E-piano performance and transformed either backwards or re-pitched). This was the beginning of my continuing obsession the electronic production in Ableton Live (as taught to me by Tom Thum).

For Australians the start of spring has a small significance, mostly rooted in literature. Since Tali and I moved to frigid Berlin I have come to understand the primal awakening of Spring and I'm glad to say that this piece sums up my gratitude therto.
