As part of Hobart Festival of Voices, Mozart’s iconic Requiem is revisited by contemporary composer Gordon Hamilton. Shrouded in mystery surrounding its composer and incompleteness. Hamilton has reworked the music to fill in many gaps within the original mass, and while nodding respectfully to Mozart’s style, has reinvented the soundscape to include boundary-pushing harmonies and an inventive and kaleidoscopic orchestration. The vibrancy of the piece reinforces the drama of the original Requiem while transforming it into a cutting edge 21st Century work.
